Finding Your Most Flattering Look

How many women have asked the question, "Does this make me look fat?" of a spouse, friend, salesperson, etc? As women age, our bodies and the distribution of its weight change and so this does become more of a pressing concern. And even a woman with an "ideal" hourglass shape all her life will experience this challenge as she gets older.
Add to this frustration are the current clothing options that are being sold, and they seem to be geared towards younger customers who aren't facing these weight dilemmas. So pretty much everything will look flattering on them. On top of that, are the younger sales professionals who don't quite grasp this "plight" of the mature women. They just don't feel our pain!
Case in point was a recent conversation I had with a woman. She shared how she was going to be doing a presentation to a younger audience and wanted to look more "current" to appeal to them. And she just happened to be wearing the outfit the young salesperson recommended.
While I agree the best approach is to dress for your audience, I was thinking to myself, "The salesperson really did this woman a disservice". She recommended a trendy jacket, but didn't take into account where the jacket hit the woman on the hips nor the detailing in the same area - both which called attention to where the woman carries her weight...i.e. not the most flattering look.
So what's "a woman of a certain age" to do? Know your body type. If you don't know it, hire an image consultant who can not only determine that, but show you the styles and shapes of clothing that will enhance your appearance. The result is you will be confident when you shop for clothes because you will know what looks good on you. And as you've probably heard before, but it's true: "When you look good, you feel good!"
